The Year In Sports -2008 #1

January 5 -Tynecastle Stadium -Edinburgh, Scotland.

Heart of Midlothian FC v. Killmarnock FC 1-1

And a pretty damned good match at that. They sure know how to support a football club over there in Scotland.

----------

February 12 -HP Pavilion -San Jose, CA

San Jose Sharks 3
Calgary Flames 4

The Sharks managed to blow a 3-2 lead with 30 seconds left. And then they lost in overtime. Some day, I'd like to see the Sharks actually win a game live...

-----------

February 13 -PAL Stadium -San Jose, CA

San Jose Earthquakes 0
Houston Dynamo 1

The 'Quakes might not be any good yet, but it's damn nice to have a local club to support. This was there first exhibition game back after 2+ years of not having an MLS team.

------------

February 16 -Kezar Stadium -San Francisco, CA

San Jose Earthquakes 0
Houston Dynamo 0

Cold and windy conditions at the game, but the second game was much better than the first. I look forward to many more to come...

------------

February 17 -Palm Drive, Stanford University, CA

Prologue -Tour Of California

I love watching time trials, and this one was no exception. I was sitting in the sun on the side of Palm Drive taking pictures of pro cyclists going by at 35 MPH for a few hours. So much fun! And it was a nice 41 mile round trip ride. =)

-----------

February 20 -Sierra Road -San Jose, CA

Stage 3 -Tour Of California

My original plan was to climb to the top of Mount Hamilton to watch the race, but the weather wasn't looking too promising, so I settled for Sierra Road. So naturally, I got on my bike and rode to the top of Sierra.

I ended up watching from a spot about 250 metres from the top of the hill. It's good to know that the pros suffer on that climb. I certainly did getting to the top! I was probably a good 6-7 minutes behind my best time. But the suffering was worth it...

And yes, I did take a vacation day from work. =)

Hopefully, I'll keep up with this topic throughout the year. I plan to mention all of the sporting events I get to see live this year...

Who Says?

Who says you can't judge a book by its cover?
