From Alcatraz

This past Saturday morning, I took part in the annual Alcatraz Challenge swim. Good times were had by all, I assume...

I only hit two jellyfish in the water, and swam reasonably well considering how infrequently I've been swimming this summer. My time was 1:00:44, which is 15 minutes off my best time for the course. But when I did that, I was swimming upwards of 12,000 yards per week compared to 2,000 to 4,000 per week these days.

My legs cramped a bit after I hit the second jellyfish, since I started to sprint to get away from it. But hey: no stings, so it's all good!

After the swim I went for a nice 44 mile ride up through Sausalito, Corte Madera and Tiburon.

In the evening, Joan and I went to The Waifs' show at The Great American Music Hall. An excellent show, and it was our third time seeing them this year (and my fifth over all). They never seem to put on a bad show, and they were certainly "on" for this one.

Earthquakes rattle LA...

No, not the ones that shake the ground and damage buildings. The San Jose Earthquakes beat the LA Galaxy (or the Gals or the Scum or whatever you want to call them) on a beautiful day in Oakland on Sunday.

Final score was 3-2, with the winning goal coming off the foot of Ryan Cochrane in the 90th minute. Good stuff! We celebrated like we'd just one the MLS Cup!

Here's my favorite pic from the match:
